About Nepal Travel Plan

Nepal travel specialists

We are a small, internet-based Nepal travel specialist, offering you a unique way of travelling around Nepal. Our Nepal travel specialists will help you build your own trip. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service levels which continue throughout the life of your booking.

Nepal Travel Plan is part of Rickshaw Travel, an online adventure tour operator made by travellers for travellers. It is born out of the idea that there are hardly any independent travel options available for more adventurous travellers.

Our trips are very individual, so we're able to use small-scale, authentic accommodation with local character and warm welcomes. With Rickshaw Travel, you won't find large group coach tours but instead you'll travel by trains, buses, private car, planes, and sometimes minibus. Flexibility and independence are fundamental, which is why we organise as much or as little as our clients wish.

We also like to give something back to local communities, which is why we sponsor various charity projects. See our responsible travel page for more information.

We're able to keep our prices low because we don't produce flashy brochures or run luxury shops. However you're more than welcome to visit our Nepal travel specialists! We are based in Hove, on the South Coast and we're the sister company of round the world specialists, Travel Nation.

I first visited India and Nepal in 1994. India was my first stop on a round-the-world trip and Nepal my next destination. After nearly 3, amazing and slightly overwhelming months, in India, I made my way overland from Varanasi across the border to Nepal. I was worried that my fascination and love of India would lead to me to be disappointed in Nepal, but this was definitely not the case!

There was a noticeable change of pace and atmosphere on arrival in Kathmandu. In my opinion it feels less chaotic and the general ‘hassle factor’ is lower than in some Indian cities. After a few hours in Nepal I soon stopped comparing and contrasting as Nepal has its own identity and its own kind of magic.

My main reason for visiting was to do some trekking, but I happily spent more than a week visiting amazing temples, drinking cocktails and just hanging out in a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants. My friends and I organized our own trek in the foothills of the Annapurna from Pokhara. We did get a little lost and it was hard carrying all our stuff on our backs. In retrospect it would have been great to have a local guide and our own porter!! I have lasting memories of crystal clear mornings with the amazing, almost unreal, back-drop of snow-capped peaks and many, many photos should I ever forget!

I ended up in Nepal quite by accident; a reoccurring theme with my travelling. I was in India and realised I was just a bus ride from the border, so I jumped on the next bus and a bumpy eight-hours later I was in Nepal. I was expecting the same as India: chaotic streets, masses of people and car-horns blaring away. However I came across a relaxed calm country, where the pace of life is wonderfully slow. Of course trying to shop in Thamel is still an experience!

I quickly fell for Nepal, the friendly people, the laidback life-style, stunning temples and the clean fresh-air that I found in the beautiful Himalayan mountain ranges. Trekking is amazing not forgetting that you are in the shadow of the world highest mountain, Everest! Apart from Kathmandu, Nepal feels almost untouched by modernisation, which is one of the main reasons why I love it. Villagers still live a very simple life, children run up to you with huge grins on their faces and time seems to stand still.

Even though Nepal is small in comparison to its neighbours, there is so much to do: searching for tigers and rhinos at Chitwan, whitewater rafting, exploring the historic towns, relaxing with a cold drink while enjoying the sunset behind a mountainside from a roof-top cafe and of course trekking, including the famous Annapurna circuit and Everest base-camp, that I find myself very impatiently waiting to return.

Nepal really is incredible! I’ve just returned from a trip which took me overland from Northern India and I absolutely loved it. Of course, the scenery and the whole experience of trekking means that time in the famous Annapurna Range is top of most people’s list, but there is far more to Nepal than mountains. Kathmandu is a great city with a fantastic atmosphere. From the bustle and shopping of Thamel to the bright white stupas and glittering temples of the Durbar Squares, night life and restaurants, and ancient medieval towns of Bhaktapur and Patan, there is more than enough to keep you occupied. Chitwan National Park in the Lowland Terai is amazing too, and has far less foreign visitors. I was lucky enough to see a crocodile (scarily close-up) and a sloth-bear in the distance. I saw one-horned rhinos as I stomped around on elephant-back or crept through the jungle with my guide, and a tiger caught a deer outside my jungle watchtower in the night! One of the main highlights for me was spending the day with the Tharu in their village, collecting jungle vegetables and preparing a delicious meal which we ate together. These really were the most genuine and friendly people I’ve ever come across, and spending time with the easy-going Nepali people away from the tourist centres is unforgettable.

I have only recently returned from Nepal, and I can safely say that I have fallen in love with it. India is one of my favourite places in the world - the more chaotic the better as far as I'm concerned - and I guess I believed that Nepal would be somewhat similar. I was totally wrong. Nepal is far more laid back. The people are far more relaxed, and they really know how to throw a good party (even when they have to trek up a mountain the next day).

As for the landscape - well - it's pretty unbeatable. The skies are so blue and every colour seems more vivid against the backdrop of the mountains. When you're trekking, you can suddenly turn a corner to be confronted by an almighty white peak. There's really nothing like it. For me, the highlight of the trip was sunrise at Poon Hill. It was incredible, and not just because of the once-in-a-lifetime view. The sense of achievement that I felt was amazing - knowing that my own two (very small) feet had carried me all the way up there. Magic.

I'm already itching to go back to Nepal, and I've only been home for a couple of months! Get out your walking boots and go - I promise that you wont regret it!

I have spent many years travelling and have been to every continent. Nepal however is my favourite country. The thing that stands out for me is the raw beauty of the Himalayas and the fantastic experience of trekking there.

The daily life of trekking, far away from roads, computers and mobile phone signals, through stunning and ever changing scenery, in and out of picturesque villages, for me is incredibly exhilarating. It is also a humbling country to travel through. As you pass through each village, despite having very little, people seem to be content and happy. This is especially true of the children who put most western kids to shame.

You will get fit, lose weight, breath the freshest air in the world, eat simple but great food, have great old fashioned conversations in the guest houses, go to bed and get up early, and sleep like a log. Best of all you will also meet other trekkers who, like you are infected with Himalayan effervescence.
